The skybox is dead. Long live the skybox!

One of my favorite things to do in SL is decorate. I can't build -- I'm a terrible builder. I made a couch once that made other furniture want to take it behind the building and shoot it. So I can't make my own stuff but I love to shop for stuff and then make pretty spaces with it. Since starting SL in late 2006 I've probably had 6 or 7 houses. Every so often I'll tear everything down and start again.

So when my landlady said Aerin and I could replace our large skybox with an even LARGER one (and that we could have two, so Aerin and I could each have our own space), we jumped at the chance. Last night we took everything down from the old skybox and then sat around her little pond and reminisced about how fun it was to build the old thing. It was sad. But before we tore it down I took some pictures of it in its former glory. We've just started placing things in our new skyboxes, so hopefully we'll be able to make it better than ever! Here are some pictures of our old, dearly departed skybox.

One of These Things is Not Like the Other

So, the other day, my friend Aerin and I were out shopping and we came across one of the popcorn bags for the Zombie Popcorn Hunt. We weren't doing the hunt then, though we are now (I know, I know, a little late to the party). We found the bag at Swansong, and after we went back to our shared house, Aerin put on the pretty pink tutu dress that was in the bag. I stood on my pose stand, bald, half naked, and watched her gussy it up with flowy hair, fancy shmancy jewelry, heels. And I said: I can take that dress and make it look nothing like what you've done. And Aerin said: I bet.

And I said: CHALLENGE ACCEPTED.

The next time she signed on, she looked at my outfit and said that I had rated myself a 9.5 out of 10 on the Aerin Shock-O-Meter (though, to be fair, she's easily shocked). I thought this would be a great opportunity for a photo shoot and we headed off to take pictures of our Swansong dresses done up in completely different ways.

Aerin kept her outfit very classy, as usual. She's the one with the long dark hair and the purple flowery pumps. I'm the one with the sticking-up hair, facial piercings, and gold boots. I asked Aerin what I would have to do to get a 10 out of 10 on the Shock-O-Meter, but she wouldn't tell me.

One of the things I tried to do with this shoot was capture movement. At first, I stood still and asked Aerin to dance around me. But she buys furniture, not dances, so the only dance she had was the Chicken Dance! She said I was trying to make her look ridiculous, so I relented and started dancing around her instead. This is something I'd like to try again, trying to capture moments inside of a dance.

Hooray for Summer!

That's a lie. I don't really like the heat, but it's been so pretty here for the last couple of days that I can almost imagine myself basking in the warm sun. Or the glow of the computer screen. I mean, no need to use up all of that sun before the summer has even started.

But in SL, it's beautiful all year 'round, so Aerin and I decided to put together some fancy-shmancy outfits in honor of the changing seasons! In this photos, I'm on the left, in the nearly-see-through corset and purple skirt from LeeZu. Aerin, classically beautiful as always, is on the right. I tried to throw on a lip piercing or some funky tattoos, but Aerin begged me to tone down this outfit, and for some reason I decided to listen to her. Just this once.

Standing On My Desk

Since I'm not actually working at my desk, doing any number of things that need to get done before school starts again next week, I figured I might as well stand on it. Kick some papers around, make it look like I've been productive over winter break and not a total slug. If I change my outfit in SL every single day, doesn't that make me productive? It does. I insist that it does.

P.S. Tons of stuff is on sale right now at SMS So Many Styles. I keep going back! Make me stop!

Birthday Furry Hat

Today was my RL birthday and I'm feeling a bit old, so I decided to throw together a mostly ridiculous outfit. I scandalized my friend Aerin by putting together a semi-functional shirt/skirt combo that didn't scandalize her, and then a furry hat/furry boots/mask/wings accessory pack that did. And that's what made it so fun! In fact, I'm still wearing it, mostly to drive her crazy. Happy birthday to me!

Friends and Fashion

About a year ago, I convinced a RL friend to try out Second Life. Then I dragged her across the grid searching out the best fashion and accessories. She tried to resist, but was powerless against my rhetorical skills. Now, a year later, we've just moved into a new Mudshake house and filled it with pets, friends, and awesome furniture. The house is enormous, and we're constantly running out of prims, but we love it. And the best thing about it is that there's two separate apartments, so we can share a house but still each have our own space.

So, as my first blog post that'll be syndicated to the Fashion Feed of SL (woohoo!) I thought it would be fun to do a photo shoot with my friend, the fabulous Aerin. She was kind enough to sit through hours of wardrobe deliberations, location scouting, and the like, and even knew that I was lying when I said she could decide stuff! That's a true friend!

A picture of me and Aerin. Aerin is on the left, and I'm on the right (with the long hair):

In the end, we went with two shoots and two different outfits. For the first shoot, we headed to the beautiful build for Mon Tissu. I decided to showcase how different we are from each other in terms of our fashion sense. Aerin is very classically minded, and she loves evening gowns, retro chic, and full skirts. So in the two photos that follow, Aerin is wearing a gorgeous red evening gown from Miamai. As for me, I like a little more funk, a little of the unexpected. So I'm wearing my take on formal wear, complete with men's suit coat and shirt from Aoharu, and ripped stockings. I'm really happy with how these photos turned out.
